Let It Snow Let It Snow Let It Snow

living.boondockingmexico@yahoo.com

Dee asked if we were having snow.  Well, we did and we still do.  The mountains are covered and only 16% of students went to school.

Here in the north we have snow occasionally, but this time around the cold makes it even worse.  It dropped down to a low of  -6C and it will continue tonight.  The snow on the ground is gone but last night all the water froze on the trees.  This morning it was raining under the palm trees.

Yesterday I received a call from a U.S. number on my cell phone.  I was headed home from school and figured it was the guy who worked on the house in San Antonio.  It was Sue and Brian who had crossed the border yesterday and were heading to San Miguel de Allende.

Croft posted this story but they were stranded on the highway between Laredo and Monterrey.  They wanted to know what was going on and I found the Policia Federales twitter site and it said snow had shut things down.  Great website by the way because it is constantly updated.

  1. Odd, the last thing that comes to my mind about Mexico is snow. Happily here the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island we have not had any yet, knock on wood, snow belongs on the mountains. Best of luck to Brian and Sue...

  2. Yikes! That's colder than the weather at home in Terrace. No bueno. It got down to 8c last night here and that felt really cold after all our high temperatures over the last few weeks here in Mazatlan. Stay warm.

    1. They are calling for snow in Mazatlan but I doubt it will happen. Too close to the ocean. Stay warm!

  3. Chris, hope you and Juan have more than sweaters to pull out of your clothes chest! Does your house have central heat or do you use space heaters? Possibility of snow in Mazatlan!! Just simply unbelievable.

  4. We have three high Wall or minisplits, but mostly use a radiant LP in the living, kitchen and social área. The minisplit at night in the bedroom.

  5. Since you and Juan generally don't live in a freeze zone, it looks like a great system; you're not heating space which is not being used at a specific time--very efficient. It sounds a lot like what Beach has in his workshop which he uses only about two hours a day and some days not at all. The next house (you never know what the future holds) we build will have solar on the roof; contractors have said it is getting cheaper and cheaper to add as an option and is efficient if the house is oriented in the right direction and the roof has the right design. This old house built in 1974 does not have an efficient system, but we do not live in the far north, so we put up with it.

  6. Brian and I just want to thank you again for your help when we were trying to figure things out! We spent one night just off the road north of Monterrey and the next night just off the road north of Saltillo. Not fun but we did have our house with us so that helped. We made it to San Miguel yesterday and are settled in at San Ramon for a month. Any chance we'll see you here during that time?
